Mulching
Healthier soil, cleaner beds, and a polished landscape edge.
Mulching is one of the most effective and affordable ways to improve the health and appearance of your landscape. A properly applied mulch layer regulates soil temperature, holds moisture during dry stretches, reduces weed pressure, and protects tree and shrub roots from compaction and erosion. We install mulch at the correct depth and around the right areas so your beds look intentional and your plants stay healthy.
Materials & Equipment
We use the right materials and tools for each job so the work holds up to our Northeast seasons and suits your property.
- Hardwood bark mulch (double-shredded, natural brown)
- Dark brown and black dyed mulch for a longer-lasting color
- Cedar and hemlock mulch options
- Leaf compost and organic compost top-dressing
Common Use Cases
Mulching works for a range of properties and situations across Westchester, Putnam, and nearby Connecticut.
- Refreshing tired planting beds each spring
- New construction or newly installed landscapes
- Tree rings around mature trees to protect roots and mowing equipment
- Sloped areas where erosion washes out bare soil
- Commercial properties needing a clean, uniform look
Things to Consider
- We avoid piling mulch against tree trunks and plant crowns ("volcano mulching"), which can rot bark and invite pests.
- A 2–3 inch layer is ideal — more than that smothers roots; less lets weeds through.
- Dyed mulches hold color longer but need a brief settling period after installation.
- Re-mulching once a year is typical for most properties in the Westchester and Putnam area.
Our Process
How We Approach Mulching
Bed preparation
We edge and clean your beds, remove weeds and debris, and define crisp borders between turf and mulch.
Depth and coverage
Mulch is spread evenly at the correct depth, kept back from trunks and stems, and raked to a uniform finish.
Cleanup
Walkways, driveways, and patios are swept clean so your property looks finished the moment we leave.
